The 'Ride of the Rings' was a very good experience: after 1 hr 30 minutes riding in the Dart River Valley, an interesting 4WD tour on many sets of LOTR movies. Funny comments and very friendly guide!
we did the river wild, great experience for absolute beginners and riders with more experience, each rider got a horse that suited him/her,
Huge, sweeping landscapes that you really could not see on foot. Great horse tips and great humour when keeping us in the saddle.
Went in one of their full day tours. Did the Ride of the Rings and River Wild options. Ride of the Rings was mediocre at best. It starts out with a 4wd tour of some of the local filming locations for Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit and Wolverine. They don't stop for very long at each location and they don't bring you in to see the location close up, you can only stand at the roadside and see it from a distance. The tour ends off with a horse tour of the dart river area, which was nice with great scenery, but no relation to the lord of the Rings series as they imply on their website. They also state that the River wild has ties to lord of the Rings, but it doesn't. It's basically just a two hour version of the first horse tour. On the first tour the ride was nice and the horses well behaved, but on the second I was not impressed. One person from our group ended up in the dart river because the guides told us to cross the river in the wrong spot and I was almost thrown from my horse (who was skittish and behaved badly the whole 2 hours) at one point and incurred a hand injury as a result. The guides both seemed to try to ignore that it even happened and just moved on with the tour. Was not pleased and I would not recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for a Lord of the Rings tour, use Nomad Safaris instead.
Was not impressed with their rules about weighing people to make sure they are under 95 kilos. It should be stated on their brochures that they do this. It's not good practice in my opinion.
Exploring New Zealand's beautiful nature on a horse back was relaxing. Breathing the fresh air and just enjoying the pureness of the country.
Did two tours, first one was for total beginners! I did not enjoy it (I am a horse instructor in Germany). Second tour was awesome, I was allowed to canter on m own apart from the group.
I did two rides in one day. I am an experienced rider. My first ride was along the Dart River up to Mt Albert with some river crossings. The second one was up at Paradise. Staff and horses are really good. Horses can be used for beginners as well.
Very good horses. beautiful walk!
Very good guides. Horses also very good (not the skittery types). Very beautiful scenery (Glenorchy).
Very enjoyable ride, qualified guides, horses in very good condition, level customised according to skills of every person. Would definitely recommend this tour.

The crew was so friendly and made us feel welcome. I have not been riding that much, but they gave me a horse that could fit and took good care of me. It was so fun! And our guide, Linsey, was such a smiling and lovely girl.
Very friendly guide - Lindsey. Felt safe, safe horses. I am quite an inexperienced rider and she customised the trip for us. Lovely scenic ride through the Dart River Valley - Glenorchy.
Very scenic ride, could have been more advanced.
Good value. Rode 1.5 to 2 hours through an area called Paradise. It did indeed live up to it's name. Group size was a bit big-12 people.

We had the most awesome horse ride with one of the most splendid sight on planet earth. Must go place as the view is truly worthwhile.

Another excellent experience.

The Trilogy Loop - best for experienced riders in Glenorchy.
Marcel & Kim Meichtry
Friendly people, comfortable horses, great scenery and small groups.
The guide was great. But the other staff members were bossy and arrogant.
The weather on the day was pretty awful and I was not kitted out for it. It would have been a pretty wet and cold old day if it wasn't for the friendly welcoming ladies and gents at dart stables who leant me a woolly vest, hat gloves and waterproofs! thanks guys! the horse trek was really fun, It was my first time riding a horse and it went fine! Yogi (my horse) was really laidback and easy to get along with and our Guide was entertaining and really looked after us. The weather didn't matter in the end, I had great fun in amusing company!
Exhilerating. Two hour trek with amazing scenery. Good value for money.
Well organised. Enthusiastic and friendly.
First time on a horse and can still feel the pain, but the guides were very supportive and we felt totally safe.
Had a great tour. The tour guide was excellent. So informative. Spectacular scenery and loved the water crossing on horseback.Would recommend this tour to anyone, even to people that have never ridden a horse before as the horses are matched to each rider based on their riding ability.

Horse riding in Glenorchy. Beautiful trip and good equipment. Very nice to ride through the river!! Scenic views.

Lovely horses, spectacular scenery, well organised. More expensive than most but worth the money.
I did the Trilogy Loop. The horses were great (Ginger is lovely!), the scenery is stunning and our guide was very friendly. It was probably my best horsetreck ever!
We were a small group of experienced riders (only 6, including the guide), which was perfect! We did a lot of river crossing and of cantering.
They describe it as a 3 to 3,5 hour ride but we rode only 2,5 hours. And, last but not least, at the end of the ride, we had to hurry and jump into the van that took us back to Queenstown. Instead of dropping us at our hotels/hostels were they had picked us up the same morning, they dropped everyone in the center of Queenstown without telling us before. That was not nice at all. It felt a bit like "now we got your money, we don't care"... tsst tsst tsst.
Horseriding. I did the river wild, which is good for beginners w/ a little bit of trot and cantering. Very nice horses, some of them have been part of LotR. Nice guides.
Too expensive!!! The tour took 5 hours but we spent 3 hours in a car!! The horse riding was only 1 hour!!!
Had a great day out. Rode the Loop and Rings today. 3hour fast canter ride in the morning with a 1.5hour slow ride in the afternoon. Two different horses and two completely different rides. Got shown where scenes of Lord of the Rings was filmed and both tour guides were very knowledgeable!
Nice day and nice spot (Lord of the Rings Tour) but 2hr drive and only 1hr horse ride.
Lovely staff & beautiful horses! I went for the day & did 2 rides (can't remember which 2 now) but they were fab. As an experienced rider, your heart sinks when you're told you're going with novices, but actually it ended up being awesome! I was allowed to go off and have a few canters/gallops - told where to start/stop etc & then in the afternoon ride was trusted to escort for a bit as the others were having a few problems! Was even offered a job there! absolutely stunning scenery, completely breathtaking!!!
Glenorchy is a beautiful little town, familiar to the hiking crowd and Dart Stables is a great addition. The cost is affordable, without being a bargain or overly expensive, and the staff are relaxed and experienced, and perhaps just as laid back at Glenorchy itself. The horse, "The Jazzman", was capable and a little cheeky, but took direction well and was certainly safe. The ride was beautiful, along the river and around the surrounds, but perhaps moreso as the focus wasn't on some movie made nearly a decade ago now.
I am an experienced rider and did the Trilogy Loop ride. I was the only one in the group, which was nice. I loved that they offer trips for experienced riders, I don't think I would have enjoyed just walking. The guide was great and knowledgeable, and my horse for the day, Elvis, was great fun to ride. The scenery is absolutley breathtaking. This has been my favorite activity in New Zealand, would recommend it for both experienced and inexperienced riders.
two hour ride. Guide was very thusiastic & wanted us both to be in comfort zone (different riding levels). Well behaved horses too!
Luckily I had a private tour. But anyway it was very exciting & informative.
Nice staff, horses seemed looked after well & enjoyed the ride.
Great views, easy riding for beginners. Our guide was lovely & informative. Highly recommend.
I did the lord of the rings ride for 1 and 1/2 hours, most of the ride was in a bush, when we came out of the bush the scenery was great but that only lasted 5 minutes. The staff was friendly and informative, but the over all experience was a rip off. The land you ride on is privately owned by a trust so no other operators have access to this pirtucular spot were only 3 very small scenes of the lord of the rings was filmed so a bit of a monopoly. $155 in my opinion not worth it.
Ride of the Rings Tour. A great way to see the scenery from the Lord of the Rings - by horseback!
Very scenic horse trek. I would have liked to have gone for longer!
Great horseback tours along scenic trails. Friendly staff and very enjoyable. Suitable for those that haven't ridden a horse before.
My first horse ride and it was a beautiful site near Queenstown. Good commentary with guide and a reasonable price.
Worth the money!!
Everyone was really helpful.
