Elsthorpe Scenic Reserve is made up of two blocks of mature lowland podocarp forest with excellent examples of kahikatea, matai, miro and totara. Native birds are plentiful including kererü, tüï and fantails.

Van of Green Fables

Ranking: 4/10

Perhaps a quick stop and a bush walk on your way out to Kairakau Beach as the bush is nice, but very small. There are no facilities, no atmosphere and with other freedom camping spots so close (Kairakau Beach) I would not recommend it.
