Access to the grassed area will be restricted over the winter months to protect the turf from vehicle damage. There will only be limited parking available in the non-self-contained area during this time.
If you are in a self-contained, non self-contained vehicle or a tent then you are welcome to stay here. Maps showing designated camping areas are shown on site.
There are three separate areas at Warrington to segregate the different user groups. The areas are for those camping with tents, those with certified self-contained vehicles and those with non-certified self-contained vehicles.
There are limited spaces for each user group in these areas and enforcement will be operational for vehicles outside of the designated areas.
Vehicle noise and lights can disrupt sleep, so please show consideration to local residents and other campers by arriving at the site before 10pm. Please also respect our environment by using the rubbish and toilet facilities provided.

This is such a sweet spot especially if you just spent the day in Dunedin! We were there end of March and it was still quite busy, however there are still a lot of space. Beach is great, we even went for a swim.

20 minutes to the centre of Dunedin. Nice flat area for our motor home, portaloos, dump station, rubbish bins and flushing toilets. Beautiful/ wild beach 5 minute walk and a good playground for the kids. Busy.

Plenty of space on the grass (the self-contained canvas seemed to spill over quite a ways into the "camping" area). Permanent toilets at the front in the gravel "non-self-contained" area and two portaloos near the rear which were heavily used but relatively clean. Probably 30-40 groups there in late February, it was fairly full but not packed. Not everyone was quiet & respectful, there was loud music until late. The beach is nice and easy to access and there is a sea lion who raises a pup there every summer, though we didn't see her. Very easy to access from the main highway through town and well signed. Not our first choice, but an easy free place to stay the night.
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

Wow!! Sehr toller freier Platz. Große Fläche um zu campen. Direkt hinter den Dünen an traumhaften Strand.
Toiletten waren dreckig. Trinkwasser vorhanden! Ebenfalls Spüle für den Abwasch.
Immer wieder gerne an diesen Ort!

Really nice free campsite! Portaloos smelled pretty bad, but luckily there were also some flushing toilets.

Nice place nearby the coast. You can have great walks at the beach. For non self-contained only a few campsites available and you stand very close together like on a car park. Toilets and sinks for washing the dishes are good. There are some tables where we cooked and had dinner.

Fantastic free campsite with drinking water, bins and toilets. Few minutes walk to the beach. Lots of space but filled up quickly in the summer so park close together and don't arrive too late!

A lot of places at the campsite. The toilet is a clean public toilet. When we were there the toilet paper was finished so if you want it be sure to bring your own. This is one of the best free campsites we had.

Tents to the playground end and self contained vans to the far end ensure our sea lion mother and baby are not disturbed. Sea lions hate “banging” e.g. tent pegs being hammered in - sea lions are highly endangered, are most vulnerable when giving birth and are dangerous wild animals - stay at least 20m away - your choice of tent site can support retention of our national treasure, thank you.
