Camping NZ NEW

Welcome to New Zealand's most comprehensive database of freely available camping information. This is the only travel map of its kind in NZ.

Time : 1 hour. Vehicle access to Lookout.

Various walks lead up from the base of Kaiti Hill to four lookout points. They make for fantastic viewing over Poverty Bay and beyond to Young Nicks Head and Mahia Peninsula. Other features include a World War II gun emplacement, a playground and nature trails.

It's a place of national significance as the base of Kaiti Hill is the site where the first European (Captain Cook) set foot on New Zealand soil, in October 1769.

24Sept18. Wow, first review. How come? A nice walk, steep in places, with some good views at the top.
We camped on the beach below so had to do this one. Glad we did.
A nice pub down at the marina for a beer after. Not much lighting on the way back though.
