Follow the road right of the car park and it will take you around to a lovely spot next to a sweet little lake/pond. Beautiful views of the trees reflected in the water.
Just a guy
Beautiful spot in the nature! no toilet but you're suppose to have a selfcontained vehicle anyway to stay there overnight. 9 out of 10 because there are no toilets ;-)
A gem... we loved it !
Beautiful walks .
Brilliant little spot!! Very peaceful beside the wee pond and nice walking along the tracks. We stayed here one night in our campervan as a fill in on our way to Alex and glad we did :)
This is a lovely spot. It’s well worth going past the car park, over a bumpy track to get to the secluded lake. The walk up to the dam is also worth doing but it is quite steep and muddy/slippery when we went. A&E
Great area. Loved it - quiet and not too many vans and this was Xmas/new year !!!
Allow 2.5/3 hours for the walk up to the old dam and back . A great walk in natural bush most of the way In patches a little steep but worth it It has signs saying the walk is closed but no real reason for this !!!

Easy to find and as the others point out, camp by the small lake is superb! We were the only ones camped that night, felt very safe. Bird life is great, green, lake when still has some great mirror images. While we were there a short sun shower passed resulting in a mini rainbow right over the lake, unforgettable! Would stay again!
We stayed here in September, lovely quiet spot. Keep going beyond the initial car park to reach the small lake area at the bottom of the track. Nice walks to explore the old gold mining area. The walk down by the lake is closed unfortunately.
Great place to stay peaceful area stunning walking tracks
Excellent for self containment vehicles only stayed 4 days
We'll return again one day
Keep going past the first area as mentioned and you get to a beautiful site next to a lake, so peaceful & we were the only ones there.
No facilities but if you are self contained this shouldn’t matter.
Beautiful, quiet, peaceful picnic area beside a small lake. Just two campervans when we were there so plenty of space. Keep going past the car park to the the picnic area. No facilities. Nearby historic Lawrence has toilets.
Wonderful place to stay a night or two. We had lots of fun walking the 1 hour trail next to the campground. We didn't have any problems with sandflies (mid May) and enjoyed the ambience of the forests.
A lovely peaceful place to camp. The views were lovely next to the lake. Nice spot just out of town. Handy for us on the way between Dunedin and Cromwell.
