Freedom camping is a go-go at Paengaroa Domain. Motorhomes, campervans and RVs with self-contained status can stay for up to three nights at the domain.
Smack in the thick of the horticultural area, in Paengaroa you'll find roadside fruit and veg stalls, some good Kiwi folk and, word has it, a hearty pie...
There is a 3 night maximum stay in any 4 week consecutive period at this site. The 4 consecutive weeks begin from the first overnight stay.
When bunking down at the domain, keep your free-camping clean. Obey all signage, take your rubbish with you and respect the surroundings. Cheers!

Located next to the highway, its a parkinglot for a lovely little park. Bathrooms arent the cleanest, but they're open all night. Only about a minute's walk to the gull gas station, a dairy, café & liquor store. Playground for the kids. Not bad, for free!
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

Alright free campsite, toilets are quite far away with no light but fine for one night. Campsite not too busy either but town is quite empty so not much to do.

Fine place to park the camper for the night.
Be mindful of rugby training nights.
Toilets easily accessible and fine.

Not bad. May have children around as they practice near by and parents picking up but at night it’s quite. Toilet is not locked.

A large, open area, centrally located to the quiet rural town of Paengaroa. It certainly wouldn't be my No1 Freedom Camping choice, but this location could be alot worse all the same.
