Very good camp site good flushing toilet
Lots of space, super sunny spot. The beach is just a short walk away, there is a dairy in Porongahau (too long to walk to) with the basic essentials. Separate male/female toilets (which are going to be rebuilt this year) there is a drinking water tap. We enjoyed staying here. Cheers
Lots of camping space, for tents and motor homes. We got a beautiful spot under huge trees, with a view to the beach. Been here 2 nights... staying again tonight. Drinking water tap available!!! Clean toilets. Shop is a 10 minute drive to the village, but if you drive around to the other side (heading in the directing which you entered) there a food van.
Loved freedom camping here. Peaceful, amazing ocean and friendly people.
I’d give this an 11/10 if I could. Wonderful spot. And a bonus to have two flushing toilets with toilet paper and running water as well as drinking water on tap. We are very fortunate to have places like this to stay in NZ.
A lovely little freedom camp, two clean flush toilets and easy access to a lovely white sand beach.
We are so luck to have these places in NZ.
Great freedom camping site. Information to the Council is not necessary anymore.
Long sandy beach, relaxed atmosphere.
No fires please!!
Thank you for this great site!
Such a beautiful spot we went our on new year's day with the family and pitched our tent and gazebo, we loved the beach and the company of the other campers. We stayed 3 days but decided to pack up as the winds became so strong it demolished tents and gazebos, other than that such an awesome spot and beautiful beach.
A Brad in a van
A wonderful wee sun trap, tucked behind the dunes. I was there on an August weekend and shared the place with only one caravan. The beach and dunes are endless, and, when I was there, at least, were entirely empty. What a delight. Make sure you contact the Central Hawke’s Bay council to tell them that you enjoyed it. Their Facebook page is very responsive.
Awesomeness all round. Defs be back. Rad beach. Good vibes 🌼
wouldn’t stay here again, toilets are very cramped, dark and have holes in the building, scared a mouse or rat was going to get in but they do flush and are well stocked. Tons of sandflies and not much shelter when it got windy, only plus is the lovely beach.
Excellent free camping behind the dunes on a 3 mile beach with a sand spit. Very beautiful. Clean fluch toilets and drinking water. a small grassy area (maybe 10 vans) and a few spots under the trees. In late October had the beach pretty much to ourselves early Saturday morning but by 11 it was a motorcycle race track. Fun for them, miserable for the rest of the world. 10/10 for the site, 0/10 for the bikers. Don't forget to let the council know you're there and encourage them to keep the site for others - just phone to say thanks, the least we can all do after paying nothing.
Lovely spot with clean toilets and drinking water. Quiet beach and lovely to see hardly any junk on the beach. There is a lovely converted horse float next to the dairy in Porangahau that sells great coffee. Say hi to Orlando and help support the local community. We also had lovely fish & chip meal at the pub.
Beautiful site, weather wasn't great but still had a fantastic 1 night stay. Wonderful beach.
