Nice grassy sites right next to a beautiful little creek. We had a trail down to a perfect little swimming hole. Not a huge campsite but there were only a few other campers when we were there. There are 5 or 6 other DOC campgrounds within 20 minutes on the same road in the Kauaeranga Valley.
Access road is gravel and some small pot holes. Nice and sheltered from the wind. Long drop is fine and lots of walks nearby. Visitor centre helpful. $13 is rather pricey for what you get.
Stayed here late October, a great flat site with lots of space. Toilet and water are at the visitors centre and the walk there is through the woodland. Pay at visitors centre, we felt it was expensive for just a field but then the money does go to the DOC.
A nice little campsite with a short walk nearby and a lovely stream for collecting water and washing. The toilets were long-drops, not the cleanest but they did have loo roll and waterless hand sanitiser which was great. There's no drinking water on site but you can fill up your bottles at the tourist information site further down the road (where you pay to stay). It's a few k's down the gravel road. For only $10 per person it was a good spot :-)
Really pretty campsite with plenty of walks and mountain biking tracks nearby. Not anything fancy, but neat and tidy with 2 long drops that weren't too smelly. Nice little stop off on our way through!
The first of 8 DOC camps in the Kauaeranga Valley, highly recommended if you don't want to drive to long on the gravel road.
Nice little camp next to a little creek, long drop toilets only, but very clean. Nature walks all around you. We stayed in November for one night, very quiet and peaceful, but lot's of mosquitoes.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
