Stayed in October. We were on our own surrounded by fields of deer and sheep. And the resident red rooster that crowed, from 4 to 8 am , accompanied by a single white hen that set up camp under our van. New toilets should be open mid october but let's hope they keep the retro single drop toilet made from fibreglass for historic value. Needs a dump and water supply and then will be perfect.

Nice picnic area (grass) sheltered by trees, near hanging bridge and river, which can be used for about 5 tents. Large gravel parking for about 10 vehicles. Provides a not smelly flush toilet with paper and a water tap nearby.
Beware of the rooster! He „owns“ that place and may get agressive. In return the wake-up call early in the morning is for free :-)

Beautiful place. One table and one toilet and quite much place on the grass. We slept there in a tent. There is NO sign that this is for self-contained wehicules only.

Lovely free campsite! Nice historic bridge with a view of the sunset and a warm river for swimming. The tent area is grassy and shaded, next to drinking water and a flushing pit toilet. Parking is on the gravel lot next to the road. Be sure to support local business by treating yourself to a delicious hot drink or pastry from the coffee cart!

This a lovely place. Quiet and sheltered, no sand flies, beautiful setting next to river and historic bridge. Even a couple of chickens wandering around! Only thing that stops it getting a 10 is the toilet was "out of order".

Small campsite by the Old Clifden Suspension Bridge. Gravel carpark that would accommodate 15 vehicles, nice grass area with clean toilet that doesn't smell at all. Right next to the river and historic bridge. Can't drive car onto the campsite so have to carry gear over and park your car away from you which wasn't ideal for security. Grass area was around 500m2 so could have lots of tents. Perfect campsite if it's windy as it was sheltered by large trees and the landscape, very windy night and we slept fine. Carpark is a bit more exposed. Just off the southern scenic route so you don't have to drive 20km down a dirt road and back which is perfect for pulling up at night and heading on the next day.

The location is excellent. Far away enough from the main road to be quiet, but close enough to get back on the route you want. Our tent was fairly well sheltered from the wind and the ground was flat. Toilet facilities were clean (underground stream) and drinking water tap available. There was an area for making campfires beside the bridge as well, all-in-all making for a great atmosphere.

We have not been camping here but the place was great. Stopped for a coffee and hot chocolate and best cookies from NZ. If you are lucky to see a mobile coffee car, stop and enjoy short walk on the bridge.
