Absolutely LOVED our time here clean quiet and relaxing we will become regulars, only downfall our daughter snuck our cat into the back of the bus and sadly he ran away on the 1st night there fingers crossed he returns to campgrounds where we've left our phone numbers

A beautiful spot to unwind. Beautiful views. Hot showers
Fires on the beach
Awesome host's. Loved our week away
Beautiful place to stay. Lovely hosts. Small river to swim in, great for all ages. Build your fire at the beach to watch the sunset. $15 per night adults $10 school kids. Just great, thanks for sharing your home with everyone.
Beautifull spot and very friendly owner. Nice hazy view of Whatakaari. Also good kayaks for rent for very good prices (15 dollars for a double, 10 dollars for a single) No kitchen, no dishwashing facilities, no cell phone reception and it costs a dollar to use the showers for 4 minutes (even if you only want cold water). In that sense, 15 dollars per person per night might be a bit pricy, but then again. You can make a fire on the beach, so it was well worth it for us!
Park anywhere, no power, no internet, no cell phone coverage, pure water in the stream. Enjoy a fire at the beach in the sunset. Oh what utter joy to be in the outdoors!! This place is magical.

We were looking for a place to truly unwind and and recharge ourselves.
What a perfect piece of NZ! I adore this country of ours! Sigh.....amazing! Friendly and welcoming, the beach and fresh water swimming hole were fantastic!
Great place to get the kayaks wet too!
Thanks for sharing this place! Love it!
This place is absolutely stunning! 10/10..... Bathroon facility cleanliness, 2/10.
Safe & extremely family friendly, we had the best time. Haven't been there since pre kids & it was worth the wait. We pitched our tent right next to the beach, just bliss. Campfires every night! The grounds are clear of rubbish etc, the people who go and enjoy the camp are respectful & cherish this special place. My one & only gripe, which is very important due to the sheer number of people who stay there; was that the toilet shower area was absolutely filthy. The sign said it was cleaned daily between a certain time, and in 10 days the showers were not cleaned once (we watched & no cleaner went in there). There is mould & grime all over the shower walls, and gunk/yuck stuff in the rubber flooring in the shower cubicles. It needs to be water blasted! Was such a shame, not nice to have to take kids in there etc. But that is my only concern, other than that it is just magical......just wash in the waterhole or beach instead hehe.
Beautiful spot with nice people! You could find a great place right next to the ocean, hire a kayak, have a swim and relax. In the evening, there is a possibility of campfire and that's amazing! The facilities are basic, but that's all you need in the place like this. We will definitely come back!
Absolutely stunning spot!! right on the beach with the choice of swimming in the fresh water hole or the ocean.
Will definately be returning.
The East Coast is beautiful.
Amazing camp ground, friendly host and loads of space. Right on the beach with great sunsets. The perfect place to put your feet up and relax.
We go camping at Maraehako Bay Campground for a couple of weeks every year if possible, and have done for the past 10 years. We love the casual laid-back friendly atmosphere and we especially love Bea, the amazing woman who runs the place and remembers everyone and treats all the kids as her own.
We love the fact there is no electricity, no wifi, no cellphone reception. Campfires are allowed, which is one of the reasons we return year after year because our fave evening activity is sitting round the campfire as a family just chatting and roasting marshmallows. The kids absolutely love Maraehako and it is their favourite place in the world. There are no marked-out campsites; you just take up as much room as you need. You don’t need to book or pay a deposit, you just turn up. The camp is right on the beach so there is no dangerous road to cross. It’s a really safe family camp, with a fresh-water stream and water-hole leading to the sea. The water hole is an awesome spot and popular for swimming. There are basic facilities; flush toilets, hot showers (50c). Take your own soap, and I’d recommend alcohol hand gel to ward off bugs due to the shared facilities. No laundry or kitchen. There is a ‘shop’ that sells basic essentials like milk, ice blocks, marshmallows, toiletries etc. There are no lattes or flat whites, but if you want that you can wander up the hill up the road to the macadamia farm where there is a cafe. There are no powered sites, and the prices when we were there last year were $9 for kids and $12 for adults per night. This is a family camp where kids can be kids, climbing trees, fishing, swimming, riding their bikes and making new friends, and the adults can relax, read books, swim, make endless cups of tea, make new friends. The only downside for us is that we can no longer take our dog because some irresponsible dog owners spoiled it for everyone by not cleaning up after their dogs, and now dogs aren’t welcome anymore. Can’t wait to return.
A beautiful spot for our week long camping holiday with a great water hole to swim in. It was very quiet when we were there but if the camp was full 1 toilet and shower block did not seem to be enough facilities for a crowd. We felt that there should be soap dispensers for hygiene in the toilets. Also allowing campfires was a safety issue for us with the possibility of embers landing on the tents and sitting around outside at night was spoiled with thick smoke. Contrary to camp notices the local refuse centre is closed on Thurs and Friday. We had a great walk to the waterfall at Whanarua Bay not far from the cafe.
Stunning spot right on the stony beach. We had our one and only camp fire for the trip, which was a treat. Toilet block is quite a distance from the camping area, in good order and clean. A bit expensive at $15pp, but the location and the campfire was worth it.

A basic campsite, but with good toilets and showers ($1 for 4 minutes). It's a little overpriced at $15 per person per night as there aren't many facilities. But the thing that makes this site great is the location. It's right on the beach and the sunset was simply stunning. Campfires are allowed as well.
We absolutely loved this campsite. It has a lot of space on the grass but also some lovely spots on the stoney beach. One of the few sites that allows fires. The bay is very pretty and the sea is very calm. This site is highly recommended.
Such a beautiful spot with heaps of space. We parked almost on the beach with an awesome view. Even made a fire! Toilets and showers were good. Must do!
Very beautiful area. Loved that you could light bonfires. Lots of families here. Showers are 50c for 4 minutes. Has a little shop with basic supplies although a little expensive (understandably, very remote).
What a spot, absolutely beautiful and the hosts are great. We will return for sure.
Awesome spot. You can choose your on spot. There is a lot of space. You can either go on a grassy area or directly on the stoney beach. You can have a bonfire on the beach (you even get marshmallows at the office). Owners were friendly. Great view with White Island in the distance.
9/10 because it is quite expensive (12$ p.p.) for what you get facilitywise (dated but clean however).
Probably one of the only places you can make a fire. Beautiful pebble beach with amazing sunsets. Very relaxing. Great staff and very clean. Good place to fish or just wander around at low tide.
if your are in the area an absolut must to go there! You can park the campervan right at the side of the beach, spectacular views towards white island, Very quite, nice camp hosts, small kiosk, kajak rental possible, Good toilet and hot shower facilities ( 50cent for hot shower).
Was the best campground! Very quiet.
