One of the best hikes in the North Island. When we were there it was rainy and windy so we could not reach the top of the mountain. Highly recommended in good weather!!

Really good informative visitor centre at North Egmont carpark. All signage on the track is second to none, the same as every walk we have done in New Zealand.

Absolutely fantastic!! Views inland and over the sea, above clouds, very difficult hike though, be prepared to get on all 4s at some point. Snow permanently at the summit crater - prepare!!

One part is very slippery and not that easy. Do not under estimate the weather. Really cold at the top. Worth the 9 to 10 hour walk.

Amazing walk! Not for experts only, but you do have to be in good shape. The view from the top is great, lots of snow in the crater, even in January. Start before 8am - worth the effort.

It is definitely not an easy walk! But it is doable if you take your time. Expect at least 4-5 hours up and 3-4 downhill. Cannot compare it to the other volcanoes yet.

The walk really exhausting, started at 1:00am to enjoy the sunrise at the summit and not having to suffer of the hot temperature on the way up. The view was so clear that we could see the South Island and the Mt Tongariro and Nguruhoe.
One of the most beautiful hikes I've ever done in New Zealand. The view from the summit is going to leave you speechless.
But be ready to sweat, never give up and don't hesitate to take a break when you need it.
Trekking shoes highly recommended because some parts are really dodgy and dangerous.
Hiked it in 7:45 hours and enjoyed the summit for 1:45 hours which felt like 20 minutes.

Went up on the first clear day after several days of bad weather, wind was still quite strong. Very difficult track even with experience, difficult to keep to a clear path and your hands are strongly needed as well as good fitness. Walking poles strongly recommended. Crater was covered in ice - tricky but one of the most amazing tracks yet.

A must do when you are a bit crazy ;-))) its an exhausting climb up. 430 steps, gravel field, rock climbing and snow field.... But the feeling in the end is fantastic and the view from the top is great. Bring a lot of water and the right clothes, the weather can change very quickly. Good luck and have fun. Never give up!

when we climb a summit in our homecountry switzerland, we mostly see other summits from the top. here, we saw an ocean of clouds and only far, far away the summits of ruapehu and ngauruohe. felt like on top of the world, so amazing and impressive! pretty much the best experience during my whole NZ-journey :-)
