The Pioneer Park Camping Ground is situated in a large open, sunny grassy area surrounded by trees. You can tuck into the trees if you need more shelter - there are a few clumps in the middle of the campsite as well. There are recycling and picnic facilities on site. There is a small shelter as you come in which is a small homestead.
The easiest way to find this campspot is to follow Gudex Road off SH79 (23km from Geraldine), then turn into Middle Valley Road. Turn into the iron gates to get to Pioneer Park.

Stayed here in November 2020. Great spot with two lovely walks. 2 long drop toilets. Great place for the dog. Fire pits about the site to toast marshmallows at night. Huge area. Can’t recommend it enough.

Quiet, secluded area, off the main road. Drive is a bit further thsn expected but worth it. Fires are permitted :)

Yes smelly toilets but clean. that is part of it. Well maintained grass area. Beautiful in bush area. Fire pits are a real winner. Walks in bush, typical New Zealand native place.

Wonderful find. A fairly long gravel road to get there. Thought we might have wrong track. Many shady areas to choose from. The toilets were rather smelly. One central tap area to wash hands otherwise need to be self contained. Peaceful and relaxing. Wonderful birds heard and seen.

Great wee spot, off the beaten track so not crowded. Long drop toilets but clean, can light a fire in the evening and a real nice bush walk.

Dirty, smelly toilets. Many campervans. Access to campsite via long gravel track. Why did we pay for that? For being allowed to make a bonfire in the woods? No thank you!

difficult gravel access, 2 smelly toilets + 1 sink, campfire allowed, don't know for what we paid 16$

The worst campsite that we used all of our time in NZ. The road there was terrible, gravel is fine; but there was a stream with boulders the size of your head that needed crossing before getting to the campsite. No running water and smelly long drop toilets.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
