Information

A great campsite surrounded by bush and hills. Camp on the grassy flats, heaps of space to find your own area. There is a shelter you can duck into to sort your self out in adverse weather conditions, you can also tuck into the bush for more private campsites.

A few walks start from this area. There are BBQ sites, picnic areas and rubbish facilities.

Stunning topography, camping at juncture of the Alfred and Maruia rivers, with peaks and valleys in every direction. I can sympathise with the “sandflies from hell” comment, they do seem immune to even 40% DEET spray. But lovely big site with big grassy pitches with natural terraces and smaller pitches to hide in amongst the beech. The river is a bit hard to get to (don’t think you’re camping on it) but a lovely site. Not a huge amount to do: so unlike some other DOC sites where we’ve settled in for a couple of days, we moved on. Can also support the bird life comment: at dusk the whole place changed and kicked off with large green beetles buzzing lazily around, numbers of owls going for it, booming calls and screeches and all sorts. BUSY place, don’t camp near the access way.

Lovely spot with river in close walking distance. Set among beautiful mountain views with fire pits and picnic tables and lovely sites 2 pick from.
Toilet use on site.
Beware if you are irritated by sand flies this spot isn't for you, I seen other people's reviews first but still went here and by god the sand flies made us pack up earlier than expected to get back on the road. Lots and I mean LOTS of DECENT repellant is neccessary

Near the road but still quiet. Lots of trees but also spaces in the open if u need the sun. As previously stated views of the hills close by. Many firepits for when the restrictions are lifted

BEWARE
We arrived, looked around and thought it was a beautiful spot so we paid the $16 fee and set everything up...then they came for us...
Sandflies from HELL!!!!
And the most insane horde of bumblebees that we've ever encountered.
They appear immune to repellent and we had to hide in our campervan, even nightfall did not stop them.
The next morning it was raining yet there they were clinging to the side of our vehicle waiting for us to emerge.
Better off staying in Reefton or just keep driving.

Easy access from the main road, but still quiet, large spaces at the lawn areas or in "private" boxes under the trees. Prepared fire places, clean toilets, water and bins available. 5h walk (return) to St. Daniel Lake. Beware of the sand flies!

Easy to get to from the main road yet still a peaceful spot. We camped here and walked to Lake Daniels the next day. Would have given more points if there weren't so many sandflies!

Nice big open campground with heaps of room, you can tuck in under the trees on the bush edge for some protection from wind and rain . Great views across the flats to the river and mountains.
