Excellent! I stayed there for 1 night and cost $26 for a site (non powered)- which was a little expensive but you have access to kitchen, TV room and right on the beach. 50 cent showers which was very good! would stay there again, more of a family campsite though.

When we were there it was really empty, so nice and quiet. Buildings are quite big so there is a lot of room for a lot of people. Nice cooking facilities and the (50 cent) showers are awesome.

We spent a relaxed and calm week at Bowentown. The helpful and friendly people at the camp gave us a feeling of being "at home". They have enough toilets and showers, always very clean. A roomy, clean kitchen and a nice barbecue. We felt very comfortable. It is an outstanding place to be. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Bowentown beach holiday park. Better location than Ohope as you have Anzac Bay on the other side and best of all, a lovely beach to the East of Anzac Bay that has 170+ steps to get down to, but worth every second. The site itself also has access to the Ocean beach. Pretty good facilities and good customer service

Nice campground, great location.
But turn on a few lights at night time, not las vegas style but just a few so you can see something if you looking for toilet blocks.

At the far end of Waihi Beach, you can hear the surf at night. White sandy beaches and blue water.

We recently stayed a night in our camper van, and thought what a nice, clean friendly camp. I have no problems with paying for a shower, it is very common, especially if the campsite is on tank supply. I have already suggested to friends that it is worth visiting.

Yep I must agree with some of the other reviews about the flooding here, we were placed in a area that was very wet down at the harbour end of the camp.
We had water coming up from under the ground and yes there were lots of pot holes and they were filled with water, wouldnt be hard to fill them in and lots of mud where the cars drive, infact some were very deep. Just seems to be
lack of pride in trying to keep the place nice for the
campers.
Had some friends go and check the place out last weekend to see if it had been repaired before we looked at going back but NO still the same, they havent even fixed the
boggy hole on the driveway towards the harbour end, full of
water and mud everywhere.Update
We have booked into another camp at Waihi Beach after checking it out, found it to be very clean with GREAT
grounds and nice roads flowing though the camp, no
potholes etc.
They even have a heated swimming pool and great facilities for the kids.

We stayed at this camp originally for only 1 week, then ended up extending the stay for nearly a month. It is a beautiful camp, spotlessly clean with everything you could need and all the extra touches added to make it that extra bit special. The staff are friendly, courteous and very helpful and accommodating. It rained a lot while we were there, and yes the grounds get muddy, but that's inevitable, we have family up the road and their property also turned into a "swamp" with all the traffic coming and going, this is unavoidable. We witnessed staff at this camp working tirelessly, every sunny moment they have, to keep the camp looking beautiful. We have travelled a lot, stayed in some of the worst places, and right up to Pallazzo Versace. In our opinion, Bowentown Holiday Park ranks right up the top of our list. Can't fault it in the slightest. 5*'s from us. Looking forward to going back again.

I agree with Fishermen101, we stayed there as well and found the grounds to be very muddy. Potholes everywhere, full of water and talking to some other people in caravans it is always like that now and nothing seems to being done about it.
It is a shame to see a camp ground in such a great location not be looked after for the campers.
Only has nice roadways outside the cabins then you have to watch out where you walk as the ground is very rough and uneven, my wife slipped over in some mud and hurt her knee.
The camping area towards the harbour is a eyesore with muddy drive ways and very deep holes filled with water.
One thing it has going for it is the lovely friendly staff.
We stayed for 3 nights then moved on as we couldnt risk her falling again on the way to the shower block.Won't recommend this park to anyone.

Have stayed here twice now and would NEVER stay again.
Both times we got water though our tent site and had to leave early and the owners were very rude and would not refund my fee.
The whole camp has alot of pot holes filled with water and mud every where.Be Aware of this place if it rains it is like a swamp.
I find the Australian review very misleading.
I have visited the camp a few times when in the area to see if things have changed and believe me they have'nt.
I have some photos and will post them if I can or else I will post them on facebook.UPDATE
Went back in April to see if any work had been done on the harbour end of the camp and NO still the same, looks like the pot holes have got bigger and boggy all ready, avoid this place if you want to be dry
Bowentown Beach Holiday Park responds:
It is really sad that this camper has had a bad experience at our park. Unfortunately we can not control the weather and of late we have had weather bombs, which are very hard to deal with. We do try our best to maintain the grounds, as best we can. I am sure if you had stayed at any other park with similar weather conditions, they would be just as bad. One local park flooded so badly, to the point of having to evecuate twice, last season. As for refunds our policy has always been, we do not refund due to indifferent weather. Sorry but this is beyond our control. Please give us another go and we will pray for sunshine for you.

Close to the beach and quiet - but this may have been because not in peak season. Facilities excellent - exceptionally clean and tidy. Couldn't believe it..same amenities as all other parks and we had to pay to have a hot shower - cold ones are free! Pretty miserable. Our experience is that when you pay to stay you get a hot shower in with the price. Won't be back.
Bowentown Beach Holiday Park responds:
Sorry but because we are on the beach we have trouble with children in particular coming up from the beach and jumping in the showers (with their boggie boards) just to warm up, after a swim. This was meaning the hot water supply couldn't always keep up. For that reason we put in the timers, to make sure we always had plenty of hot water for our customers. The children do not warm up now, as it costs them their pocket money and mum will not supply them with money for more than 1 or 2 showers a day. Sorry but you will find most of the beach parks have meters in NZ. We do keep our prices down slightly compared with our local competitors to compeinsate for this. Sorry we won't see you back again. But Happy Camping anyway.

This place is fantastic. I'm not sure what that Candian lady was expecting to see, but I thought the scenery was great. When we went it was pouring with rain and there were civil defence weather warnings in place for the Coromandel. Quite a good test of our new tent. We had a great time and the kids loved exploring the stormy coastline and climbing the hills up to the lookout behind the campground. The beach was great - and it was nice to have the option of Anzac cove over the hill offering shelter from the easterly winds for the kids to enjoy a safe paddle. The facilities were top notch and very well kept. Huge kitchen area, and nice free barbeques. Also had seperate adults and kids TV/Home entertainment rooms, which I thought was silly when camping, but turned out great to catch the All Blacks games on the big plasma screen. The kids were kept well entertained in the playground. The only negative thing was we parked the car on a ants nest, and has to spray the car when we got home. We'll definitely be going back this year.

For the Past 9 years we have enjoyed camping at Bowentown and have seen MANY improvements to the camp.
This year it was great to see the improvement to the stairway/walkway connecting the two levels.
The next thing we would like to see is a dump station on the upper level for porter loo's rather than having to cart them to the lower level.
Our children and grandchildren hope to have many more years of pleasure at Bowentown camp.
